we live by these principles.

We don’t build for ourselves - we build for our children and for our grandchildren. And we’re comfortable with it. We want the next generation of humans and machines to stand on our shoulders. Wanna know how? Checkout the five principles below.

Spiral
1

Self-care isn’t selfish.

We take care of ourselves first. Then, and only then, we do business. Ruthless competitive business, with a growth mindset and ambitions beyond our lifetimes. But never, ever, at the expense of our health. We treat our bodies like temples and our minds like precious gifts.

So yeah. We workout, meditate and drink green juices. Hope that’s ok with you. Quoting contemporary philosopher RuPaul, “if you can't love yourself how the heck you’re gonna love somebody else“ :)

2

Disagreeing is healthy.

Look, we’re not saying you should disagree just for the sake of it. We simply don’t hold anything back. We reap the benefits of teamwork by stress testing each other’s assumptions. We fight groupthink with diversity of background, engagement, ambition and longterm thinking.

Here’s the plan. If you ever disagree, voice it. And hey, if we end up going a different route than the one you suggested, please commit to it. We’re a family. We stick together and learn from each other.

3

Make true promises.

A team should always be several times more valuable than the sum of its parts. The speed at which that value compounds is heavily dependent on one often-overlooked but highly-crucial feature: reliability.

We don’t follow up. We don’t micromanage. We just don’t. If we say we’re going to do something, we do it. Whether the promise delivers next week or next year, if we say it’s going to happen, it will happen. This allows the rest of the team to build on it, with a peace of mind. We trust. You trust.

4

Forgiveness over permission.

This is the fun bit. If you think you know the way to go, by all means go ahead. What’s the worse thing that can happen? You make a mistake, we all learn from it, and we move on. Ask for forgiveness, not for permission.

We’re men of action. Women of action. Gender non-binary folks of action. We move fast. That’s not to say we’re not strategic, but we don’t dwell on it. Countless hours of discussion are fun over beers, but counterproductive for business. So, when in doubt - just do it.

5

Always look forward.

And the less fun bit. Sometimes, only sometimes, things go South. The unexpected happens and we’re forced to revisit our plans, delay actions, or pivot. We don’t panic. We measure, we strategize, and we move on.

It’s worthless to focus on what things could have been. What if this had happened? What if this hadn’t? We don’t need to know. Instead, we focus on what things can be. Look forward, not backwards.

From Aristotle to Bertrand Russell, every philosopher, physicist, and mathematician in history built on their predecessors’ work.

Principia Mathematica wouldn’t exist without Metaphysics, and every piece of knowledge creation in between. From simple axioms and propositions to the first Turing machine, from basic logic to complex neural networks, we owe Nate to Frege, Hilbert, Poincaré, Wittgenstein, Gödel, and many others who came before and after.
